Limit Sportsmans Field In McCarron Purse Today Vantage and McGrathiana Entry May Be Favored Over Seventh Sun SPORTSMANS PARK, Cicero, 111., May 14. — Horsemen were quick to respond to race conditions for the Friday program here and the entries closed early with well filled fields. The featured Walter E. McCarron Purse, named for one of the civic leaders of nearby Oak Park, drew a limit band with Marion VanBerg, Nebraska turfman, again naming a pair, and J. and G. Hejna doing likewise. The VanBerg duo are Vantage and McGrathiana. The Hejna brothers have Rebounder and Laughing Fox in the field, but the latter is on the also eligible list. The purse which was raised from ,300 value to ,000 and will be at seven furlongs, will likely find the VanBerg coupling favored despite the fact that neither Van- — — — — i tage or McGrathiana has won at the meeting. However, Vantage will be making his first start of the season. Vantage won 10 races last year, including the Tri-State Handicap at Wheeling Downs. . . «■• Seventh Sun, one of the best runners in the stable of John Nail, is certain to offer some contention. The colt, who won five of his 15 starts last year, was recently fifth in a good race taken by Etelka. Others in the field are Joseph Dunns Flying Pat, Ned Dispenzas Jump Tune, O. and A. Spit-zers Nikoh Baby, Robert G. Burns On Train, Sunny Blue Farms Bugle Corps, and Frank Jaynes Balsa. Jump Tune, who was second to Princess Ann here in his last start, has a good chance of sharing in the purse division. To date at this meeting Bugle Corps finished third back of Countess In and Test Pattern, On Train was third back of Master Red and Dink. Balsa is making his first start of the session and the others were all unplaced in their starts here. Following the running of the race Mr. McCarron will present a gold wrist watch to the winning jockey.
