Country Gossip in Easy Route Tally at Pimlico Shows Way in Catonsville Purse by Four Lengths Over Rock Cottage By PALMER HEAGERTY Staff Correspondent PIMLICO, Baltimore, Md., May 14.— Attaining winning form for the first time this season, Alex Bruscinos Country Gossip, a son of Tourville and War Gem, this afternoon galloped to a four-length victory over fellow three-year-olds in the featured Catonsville Purse. Thorncliff Farms Rock Cottage was second, five lengths clear of J. Harry Miles White Cliff. Completing the field were Famous, Buck n Gee, and First Endeavor, in the order named. With the track sloppy from overnight rains, Country Gossip was at home in the going and romped over the mile and one-sixteenth in 1:46* 5. Winner of five of his eight races last season, and a fast-closing second in a recent sprint. Country Gossip was backed into .80 for favoritism by the crowd of 10,857 and raced to expectations. There was little to the actual running of the Catonsville, Country Gossip establishing a clear early lead, being rated for six furlongs, then increasing his advantage at will while carry Tommy Barrow to his second consecutive victory and his sixth of the meeting. Barrow, who is making his first appearance in Maryland this spring, is now but a single winner behind Bobby Mitchell and William Hartack, who are I tied for the lead at this meeting.
