Take Entries at Three Tracks For Lincoln Fields First Card CICERO, 111., May 14.— Racing secretary Lawrence C. Bogenschutz announced today that entries for Mondays opening day program of the 30-day Lincoln Fields meeting at Hawthorne will be taken Friday and Saturday at Hawthorne. Sportsmans Park, and Washington Park. Some 2,000 horses are currently stabled at the three courses in anticipation of the opening of the major phase of the Illinois season, and general manager Peter J. ODonnell reported today that he has had ] to turn down more than 600 other ap- j plications. Workmen were putting the finishing touches on the Hawthorne oval today, the ] entire plant having been repainted, and a new paddock built east of the grandstand. Feature of the opening day program will be the Crete Inaugural Handicap at six furlongs for three-year-olds and upward, weights for which appear elsewhere in this edition. All advance indications point to ever greater crowds and mutuel play than last year when the handle was up 36.59 per cent to 8,461,689 and attendance rose 33.57 per cent to 423 053.
