Documentary Turf Film On New YorK Area TV March of Time Program on NBC Americas New No. One Sport NEW YORK, N.Y., June 19.โ€” "Horse Racing โ€” Americas New Number One Sport," a behind-the-scenes documentary of the turf, v/ill be presented over the television facilities of the National Broadcasting Company this evening by the March โ€žof Time. The program will be seen in the New York area only tonight from 7 to 7:30 p. m. EDT, over WNBT channel 4, but the half-hour film is scheduled for showing over stations throughout the country at later dates. Centering upon the various activities around a race track, the program, one of the March of Times regular weekly presentations, is designed to show the public the reasons behind the sports ascent in popularity. The film deals with Belmont Park, where March of Time cameras were on location for two weeks, and Greentree Stable, with co-owner John Hay Whitney, trainer John Gaver, contract rider, Ted Atkinson, and Tom Fool, handicap star of the stable, featured. Interviews with Whitney, Gaver and Atkinson, are conducted by Westbrook Van Voorhis, veteran narrator of March of Time productions, and the running of the recent Suburban Handicap, in which Tom Fool defeated Royal Vale after a thrilling duel, is also shown. Other scenes include the activity in the racing secretarys office, filing of a foul claim with the stewards, and shots at the Greentree Farm at Lexington, Ky. The film was written, produced and directed by the March of Time staff. -
