Arlington Set for Monday Inaugural Three of 16 Stakes Run Opening Week Primer to Head First Card; Offer Artful on Wednesday And Equipoise on Saturday ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, 111., June 19.— A star-studded colony of thoroughbreds, jockeys and stables is poised at Arlington Park today, ready to spring the gates Monday on the richest racing season in Illinois history. When the 27th Arlington meeting gets under way for its first race at 2 p. m., it will launch a literal gold rush for approximately ,560,000 in stakes and purses. That lucrative pace will be set for 36 days at Arlington Park and will be maintained for the ensuing 31 days when Washington Park picks, up the coordinated meeting at Homewood, 111. When horsemen are through competing for the 67 days at Arlington-Washington, they will have pocketed nearly ,000,000 in awards, a record distribution total designed by executive director Benjamin F. Lindheimer to produce Americas richest summer racing. Among those attending the inaugural racing Monday will be Governor and Mrs. William G. Stratton and Illinois Racing Board chairman Paul Serdar and Mrs. Serdar, who will be guests of former Congressman James G. Simpson, Jr. Everett Jr. to Start on Monday Three of the 16 stakes scheduled at Arlington will headline opening week. The curtain-raiser on Monday, the 5,000 Primer Stakes, has attracted all of the Midwests most promising two-year-olds, including Everett Lowrances Everett, Jr., winner of six races, three of which were stakes. One of the best, duels of the summer is in the offing on Wednesday, when the ranking three-year-old fillies contend for the" 5,000 ArtfuKStakes. The big match sends Mrs. Ada L.
