Good Metal-Sultaness River Downs Winners Account for Daily Double Races; Hubbard Boots Home Ross Due RIVER DOWNS, California Ohio, June 19. — For the fourth time during the first 13 days of the 44-day meeting double numbers prevailed in the Daily Double events when a pair of eights came up for the small Friday crowd as Good Metal and Sultaness, a pair of six-year-old mares, took the first two races of the afternoon. Good Metal sped to her first victory this season from the number eight position in the first race, holding a length advantage at Ihe close of the six-furlong sprint. Norman Hart gave the mare a heads-up ride and she paid 2.20 for her victory. Colin Knisley drove Sultaness to her second straight success at River Downs in the second half of the Daily Double, holding a two and a half lengths margin over her nearest rival, while running the six furlongs in 1:12. Knisley received an assist from the rest of the field which bunched behind the .front-running matron and she paid .20 for her score. The Daily Double was worth 5.20 to those in the crowd of 4,341 who had liked Good Metal and Sultaness in the Double wagering. Little Willie Hubbard, apprentice who broke his maiden earlier in the week, showed a high polish to his riding as he accounted for his third saddle success in the fourth race of the program aboard D. Wades Ross Due. This .horse was one of Hubbards first mounts at a recognized face track and the Hoosier held the gelding together very well today for a half-length triumph. Hubbard has shown remarkable alertness away from the gate and is learning to save something lor the stretch with his mounts, while rapidly becoming the favorite of the local fans who backed Ross Due into second choice in the betting and the gelding returned .60 to his followers. Ross Due marked the third win at the meeting for trainer Gale Osborne, who holds the contract on the featherweight Hubbard.
