Locadah Gets Up to Nip Miss Ella by Head Margin Favored Half Bar Third to Pass Finish Line in Gates Mills Purse CRANWOOD PARK. Warrensville, Heights Ohio, June 19. — E. Davis Locadah, given a smart ride by Eddie Plesa, came . through in the final jumps to .dispose of Miss Ella and gain a head verdict in the featured Gates Mills Purse. Half Bar, the favorite, was third another two lengths in arrears. The winner, who was the second choice, paid .00 and ran the seven panels in 1:29% over a fast track. A crowd of 3,-847 was in attendance. Gerties Last, ridden by Buck Thornburg, was first out of the gate followed closely by Half Bar, Locadah and Miss Ella. As the horses sped past the judges stand on their first trip around Gerties Last was in front by three lengths while saving ground and Miss Ella was second with the eventual winner biding her time in third position another two lengths back. Racing around the clubhouse turn and into the backstretch Gerties Last still led r but the cushion had been cut and Miss Ella was ranging up on her outside and looming most dangerous. Locadah in the meanwhile had dropped into the fourth slot with Half Bar taking over in third position. After -having gone five-eighths Miss Ella had moved up to gain command from the tiring pacesetter and Locadah was still fourth, but was only two lengths in arrears and had clear racing room. Racing around the stretch turn Miss Ella was in the middle of the track, with the favorite on her outside and Locadah moving up swiftly while saving ground. At the furlong marker the eventual winner was third while in along- the rail had cut the lead down to but one length. Just inside the eighth pole Half Bar and Gerties Last both gave way and it developed / into strictly a two -horse affair. In the final 70 yards Miss Ella still led but by only about a neck and in the final strides Locadah showed in front. The winner had visited the winners en-clousure once previously this season scoring in her debut at Ascot Park. At that plant trainer Dolloway had her in against the best horses on the grounds and she did not fare too well. Last season while racing in the Chicago area she was a winner three times in 22 starts.
