MURPHY HAWTHORNE, Cicero, HI., June 1Q.— The Lincoln Fields Racing Association, which has been a tenant at other tracks since 1943, brings its successful 1953 meeting at Hawthorne to a close tomorrow with the best program it has offered during the entire season. The meeting comes to an end on a high note of optimism over the outlook for the future as the Lincoln Fields club contemplates a return to its refurbished home plant at Crete for the 1954 season. There are nine races on this closing Saturday card, which is featured by the twenty-sixth running of the 0,000 Lincoln Handicap, with 12 horses entered for that one and one-sixteenth mile event. These together with a seven-furlong dash over the grass course out of the chute, mean that six of the nine races will start in front of the stands. There is only one claiming race, third on the card, and it is for horses to be claimed for ,500. Distribution of 8,500 Purse money to be distributed on the final day amounts to a total of 8,500, not counting some hundreds of dollars in the sweepstakes attached to the. Lincoln Handicap. With 12 starters the Lincoln will have a gross value of 3,800, a net of 6,550 to the winner. Wilson, Jr,; Buddah Stables five-year-old mare, Sunny Dale, 113, whose owner is Dave Paper, of St. Paul, Minn.; P. J. McMullens Detroit-owned Dry Run, 113; H. J. OSheas Fairway Farm runner, Recline, 109; Golden Triangle Charles A. Weightman Stables Hierarch, 109; J. P. Keezeks Abbe Sting, 109; and Walmac aFrms Adam Off Ox, 109. Baybrook and Dry Run won earlier stakes at this meeting, the former taking the Fleming Memorial, Dry Run winning the Crete Handicap on opening day, May 18. After being away from the races for a year and a half, Baybrook came back this spring to stamp himself as one of the best sprinters to appear on the scene. In his first attempt at a distance greater than a mile he was beaten narrowly by Sunny Dale in the Elmwood Park Handicap here on June 13. This was the Buddah mares fifth victory of the year, she having won the Columbiana and Suwannee River Handicaps" in Florida. Her marked improvement this season is a feather in the cap of her new trainer, Dwight Denham. Jockey William Zakoor came over from Detroit to ride Dry Run. Kenny Church will ride Baybrook, Paul Bailey will have the mount on Royal Mustang, William Mc-Kinley Cook rides Sunny Dale, and Johnny Adams will have one of the Hasty House horses, trainer Trotsek having not named a rider early for the others. Seaward, now eight, won • the Lincoln Handicap last year, Ruhe finishing third. Royal Mustang, Big Stretch, Adams Off Ox, and Dry Run all finished behind Sunny Dale and Baybrook in the Elmwood Park last Saturday. In his only previous start at this meeting, Smoke Screen, who won the LeCompte, Letellier, and New Orleans Handicap during the winter for his Chicago owner, Freeman. Keyes, finished second to Bloom. Besides Baybrook, Dry Run, and Sunny Dale, other Lincoln candidates who won during the current meeting include Royal Mustang, Seaward, Recline, Adams Off Ox, and Abbe Sting. Three-year-olds dominate the remaining part of the final days card. Seven that age are entered for the 0,000 Homewood Purse, one and one-sixteenth miles. They are: Lady of Chance, Hardhack, Mc-Creight, Ace Destroyer, Sir Mango, Force of Arms and Platan. The ,500 Toro .Purse, six furlongs, engages 10 three-year-olds which have not yet won three races each.
