Heights, Ohio, June 19. — The Cleveland News Handicap for a purse of ,500 headlines the festivities here at Cranwood Park tomorrow afternoon. The feature will be run as the eighth race and has attracted an excellent field of seven. Several-other interesting events have been carded and a crowd numbering some 10,000_is expected. The weather here in northern Ohio has been delightful in the past week and indications point to another fine day. J. Johnsons Bull Skin, who will run as an entry along with Carters Pride, has been assigned top weight by racing secretary Burton. The three-year-old son of The Doge will tote 118 pounds postward while his stablemate will shoulder 110. Mrs. Ellsworth H. Augustus Seven League is the second high weight with 116, followed by T. F. Baus Dis Pete, 114, Mrs. Jimmy McCumbers Mor-Snoozey 113; V. J. McCarthys Moro, 11; and A, W. Messer-smiths Scrub the lightweight with 109. Most of these horses met last week in the Plain Dealer Handicap which was at six and one-half furlongs. In that race Dis Pete came through with a thrilling half length decision over Bull Skin and Mor-Snoozey who finished on equal terms for the place award. There are several weight shifts, Dis Pete will pick up two additional pounds whereas Mor-Snoozey and Bull Skin will be asked to carry the same burden. Scrub who was also a member of last weeks field and finished fourth beaten five lengths will take off nine pounds. The entry will probably go off as a slight favorite. Before meeting defeat Saturday, Bull Skin had a three-race winning streak which was compiled at Keeneland and Ascot Park. He has a world of early speed and should carry it through the six furlongs. Last week after the first quarter he led by three lengths and held on gamely to just inside the sixteenth marker while saving ground. Carters Pride has won a race at this meeting when on June 11 she defeated Barts Enegry by a neck. She, of course, is best remembered here in the Cleveland area for her victory in last years Ohio Derby. Mor-Snoozey, who is trained by Mrs. McCumber and was bred by her father Phil Raasch, appears well suited in this race and could walk off with, the honors. Last Saturday she raced on the outside of horses throughout and after dropping two lengths "out of it" at the furlong marker came on again in the final sixteenth with a tremendous rush and was getting to the winner at the end. Seven League, will be making his initial start of the season. Last year at Randall Park, he showed several good races and won on two occasions. On August 15 at six furlongs and then on September 1 at one mile and one-sixteenth, Seven League defeated some of the best horses stabled at the track. Dis Pete won his fourth race of the year Continued on Page Forty-Fire Seven Handicap Runners Go In Cranwood Feature Event Continued from Page Three last Saturday and could come right back with another outstanding performance.. He . has looked extremely well this spring and in one of his winning races at Wheeling Downs defeated the stakes winner Beckys Shirt. In last weeks essay, Dis Pete was allowed to drop off the pace in the first quarter of a mile. Racing into the far turn, he moved up between Bull Skin and Mor-Snoozey and in late stretch showed in front. Moro, a former stakes campaigner in California, could surprise in this race. He has one race over the local track thus far and wound up fifth going a half mile. Scrub had a few good races at Ascot Park early in their meeting, but appears to have gone far back in the past month. However, trainer Cranford has his horses in good shape at present and won ihree races yesterday with his charges.
