Barometro Meets Five in Handicap Faces Galway Boy Again in j River Downs Event; Doctors Dandy, Rough Maid Also Go By It. E. HURLEY Staff Correspondent RIVER DOWNS, California, Ohio, June 19. — D. P. Chambers Chilean, Barometro, takes another step toward the championship of River Downs tomorrow when he meets a small field of five in a ,000 handicap at a mile and a sixteenth in the feature attraction on a nine-race program which has two fine supporting features. Barometro galloped to a four-length victory in the New River Downs Purse here on the first Saturday of the meeting, defeating j J. and S. Hanovers Galway Boy, Sun View Stables Ground Fog and D. W. Kleins Doctors Dandy who are again arrayed against the Chilean. O. Braschs Sob Story and F. J. Wilsons Rough Maid are newcomers to the River Downs Handicap scene who will receive a real baptism of fire against such talent. Barometro picks up seven pounds from his early triumph which should not bother the seven-year-old son of Bar El Ghazel — Insolencia, for the gray Chilean has a very sturdy frame and should pack weight as well as the illustrious Talon, of a few years ago. Barometro blew out a half mile in J48% Friday for this race and will probably have Chilean Juan Sanchez again in the saddle. Won Governors Handicap at Beulah Galway Boy, hero of the Governors Handicap at Beulah and favored over Barometro in their lone meeting, gets in at 116 pounds which is an eleven-pound shift in favor of the Economical — Numway gelding. Galway Boy went to his knees at the start of the New River Downs Purse, injuring himself slightly, but has come to hand under trainer L. L. Sacketts patient handling. Billy Sackett will again handle his fathers horse and this combination has been deadly three times this season. Doctors Dandy was runner-up to Barometro on that first Saturday, then came back to run a smashing mile and a sixteenth in 1:45, much faster than the 1:46% that he was beaten in. The Doctor will make no mistakes this Saturday under 113 pounds and should Barometro show any of the perverse spirit of his stablemate, Bolingover, he will be a beaten horse despite his apparent superiority on paper.
