Ten Fillies, Mares Named for Regret Atalanta and Cinda Meet at Monmouth Former Takes Up 121, Giving Rival One Pound; Is Proud, Versify, Brazen Brat, Threats By WILLIAM C. PHILLIPS Staff Correspondent MONMOUTH PARK, Oceanport, N. J., June 19. — The six-furlong Regret Handicap, a 0,000 added event named in honor of the New Jersey-bred filly who was the lone member of her sex to ever triumph in the Kentucky Derby, will have its fifth running here tomorrow boasting a classy band of 10 amazons. Darby Dan Farms Atalanta was rated at 121 pounds for tomorrows engagement, one pound above Jouett Shouses Cinda, a winner in a division of last years Regret and probable favorite for a repeat performance. Arrayed against them are Companas Stables Versify, 119; Mrs. S. M. Pistorios Brazen Brat, 115; H. A. Grants Occupancy, 113 ; Reverie Knoll Farms Flyamanita, 112 ; " Brookfield Farms Is Proudt 112; O. D. Capps Piping Arms, 106; John L. Mc-Knights .1 Blue Rhymer, 105, and Hal Price ] Headleys Recover, 102. Cinda, who has been one of the most 1 persistent lillies racing on the New Jersey-Maryland ] circuit since her juvenile season -in i 1951, last year set a time record of 1:11% 1 for the Regret. Although the majority will | anticipate a front-running victory from her 1 tomorrow, there is little chance of that 1 time being approached due to the deep condition of the track. Some improvements in 1 times may be noticed as considerable soil 1 was scraped off in the homestretch this J morning, but the winner will still be doing well to score in 1:12 and some change. Atalanta seldom stops to pick up any s golden apples, the downfall of her namesake i in Greek-mythology, and she is consistently rated among the leaders of her sex. Her recent form at Garden State ] . Park : was excellent and she drops three [is 5 : pounds from her last outing when she fin- j • ished second on a sloppy strip, two and one-half lengths behind Versify, in the 1 Colonial Handicap. Versify picks up three 1 : pounds, making a six-pound shift. ] , Scored in Black Helen i The highweight daughter of Count Fleet i 1 and Omayya previously won an overnight 1 : race at Garden State, and last winter ended 1 a skein of three victories at Hialeah with 1 a score in the Black Helen. She has won 3 six races in 10 starts this year, and last. • j season was a winner four times. Harrison 3 Wilson, the stable rider, will be up. J Cinda also flaunts an esteemable record of six triumphs in 12 starts last year. This | season she won an overnight race at Pirn- i lico, wearied as if short and finished fourth in the Colonial, and whipped a band of 13 1 colts and geldings with a surprisingly easy 1 five and one-half lengths score in the opening day Oceanport Handicap here. The ■ homebred daughter of Occupy — Arden Lass ] gives one pound each to Atalanta and Ver- : sify from the Colonial, and will shoulder 112 pounds above her impost in the Regret ; last year. Jimmy Stout, aiming for a clean ■ sweep of the stakes here thus far, will have ] the mount. Versify, a six-year-old mare by The ■ Rhymer, will be ridden by Sammy Boul- • metis. She was inactive for three months ■ prior to her winning effort in the Colonial, , which made the achievement more re- ■ markable. Her stakes triumphs the past ■ two seasons have been negligible, but that last effort places her as a tough foe. ;
