Cancel Two Days Racing At Ascot Park Course Stewards Declare Strip Unsafe; Will Resume Sport on Wednesday By RONALD KRANCER Staff Correspondent ASCOT PARK, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, May 10. Monday and Tuesdays racing here at Ascot Park was called off this morning by the stewards. They made their 1 decision after watching several horses work lout this morning. In their opinion the racing strip was in an unsafe condition to race. There has been an unusual amount of rain in this area in the past three weeks and the track has never had a sufficient time to dry out so that the hole just inside the first turn can be properly repaired. Late last week Ike Bassett, central manager of the Jockeys Guild was called to the Akron course and after a lengthy discussion with track officials, allowed the jockeys to ride, but it was under protest. On Saturday and for the second time at the meeting all races were carded at four and one-half furlongs. In that way it ena- Continucd on Page Forty-One Cancel Monday and Tuesday Racing at Ascot Park Track Continued from Page One bled the association to race and without having to risk using the first turn. However, it is not fair to the horsemen or the association to keep billing this type race and thus the decision to suspend for two days. Frank Moore, director of operations at Ascot, declared that he will ask the Ohio State Racing Commission to allow the track to run nine races per day for the remainder of the meeting. Moore explains that this will enable the horsemen to recoup their losses for the two day cessation. Mondays card which was drawn on Saturday will be discarded by racing secretary Raleigh Leigh and he will draw a new set of entries for Wednesdays program.
