The Bardstown Purse, a three-quarters mile condition race for three -year-olds, will headline the well-balanced program scheduled for presentation Tuesday at this south Louisville course. Eight second-year racers are engaged for the sprint and the early favorite is Walmac Farms Prairie State, a homebred colt, the get of Bimelech and Gala Event, who gets in the feature with 120 pounds. Prairie State, who will be ridden by jockey Arnold Kirkland, was lightly campaigned during his juvenile season, winning one of his five engagements. Making his 1954 debut here on Derby Day, the Walmac Farm colt finished third in the six furlongs Ol Kentucky Purse, beaten two lengths by Dixianas Two Fisted and Maine Chance Farms War Pointer. In the field of 12 starters following the top trio to the wire were Spartan Jett, Uncased, Rifted War and Red Sultan, among others. Gave Way in Final Furlong Prairie State went to the front early in the May 1 outing and he fashioned a quick pace until reaching the final furlong where he faltered and appeared a bit short. The Bimelech-sired colt undoubtedly will improve off that performance and probably take some beating in the Bardstown, providing he runs to his recent morning trials. Arrayed against the Walmac Farm colt Tuesday are several hard-hitting sprinters and Valley View Farms Mon Mar, Brown Hotel Stables Numerical and Mrs. H. L. Nathensons Roman Stripe, all pegged at 120 pounds under the Bardstown allowances, are rated dangerous. Others expected to go to the post in the Monday attraction are Mr. and Mrs. Ray Neelys Rays Surprise, 115; G and G Stables recently acquired My Fault, 120; Thomas F. Devereux filly, Gaylon, a Kentucky Oaks starter, 115, and Baylor O. Hickmans homebred gelding, Senor Coati, 111 pounds, with the apprentice allowance and recent victor in the Brown Hotel Purse. Jockey Steve Brooks is engaged for the improved Mon Mar, Kenny Church will be astride Roman Stripe, who turned in several fair Florida races, and Johnny Adams rides My Fault. Bobby Permane will be astride Gaylon in the Bardstown and Johnny Rotz and Johnny Ralph Adams probably will be up on Senor Coati. No reinsmen had been named late today for Rays Surprise or numerical. One of the better supporting numbers on the Tuesday card is the Bridal Wreath Purse at five furlongs for two-year-old fillies and 20 junior misses were entered in the juvenile dash. Emil Denemarks Future Romance, Dr. R. C. Austins Mauverneen and Thomas Piatts Lady Alorter are expected to go well in the Bridal Wreath.
