On f he Trot By MORRIE KURLANSKY 1 Judy Cash, Miss Shine-A-Mite Score Rapone to Keep Public Stable Here All His Horses Showing Good Form MAYWOOD PARK, Maywood, 111., May 10. Judy Cash and Miss Shine-A-Mite had it all over their male rivals in Friday nights fast class pace and to make the triumph for the so-called weaker sex complete the only other female side wheeler, Myrtle Truax, finished 2-3 in the double dash event. Russell Britenf ield was the winning reinsman behind Judy Cash, for whom the law of gravity what with a 300-pound pilot in the frail sulky just did not seem to exist as she charged down the homestretch for a splendid victory in the first heat over Myrtle Truax and Miss Shine-A-Mite while the entire and gelded representatives of the male sex finished in the ruck. In the return encounter the hardy Volomite daughter, Miss Shine-A-Mite, with Billy Rouse at the reins, rated off the pace for the first three-quarters, caught the leading Trigg County Roy Riegle a few feet from the wire to gain a nose verdict but again Myrtle Truax and Judy Cash were ahead of Gay Order, Sheldon Pointer and Dale Wingay. Lou Rapone, who was all set to ship his stable to Buffalo Raceway, Hamburg:, N. Y., changed his plans and decided to keep his public stable on the Chicago circuit, at least until Batavia Downs in northern New .York opens late in the summer. The reason for this is the amazingly good form each and every member of Lous stable displayed since opening night here. As you might remember Lou won the very first race of 1954 Chicago harness season with David B. Worthy, who garnered two more races since. On Friday night Lou scored a double victory annexing the B class pace with Atomic Hanover from the highly regarded Victory Scott in 2:06, which equals the meetings record while holding the speedy Battle Prince to a dead-heat for win in the 14 class pace stake, when up behind Frisky Hal. Howard Beissinger maintained his lead in the driver standings by virtue of a victory with his trotter, Argo Volo in the CC class trot . . . Jake Mahoney also continued his winning ways and drove the trotting colt, Flashy Eton, to a maiden victory in Fridays opening race, the three-year-old making his race track debut . . . Hollis Regur seems to have a monopoly on long-shot winners. On Friday night it was his three-year-old pacer, B. D. Bristle, who defeated the royally-bred Poplar Hayes owned by Paul S. Dougherty and Gene Riegle s Jerome G. Creed in 2:11 at odds of 13-to-l. Here is a complete list of Regur s winners at this meeting up to Friday: Lucky Genoa 4.80 and 9.80: Miss B. Haven 7.60, B. D. Bristle 8.20, Flying Tarter 1.00, and Guy Comet .40, while several other Regur horses that finished second paid big place prices. Del Cronk, last year assistant trainer to Stan S tucker, is rapidly making a name for himself since training his own public stable. Starting the season at Santa Anita, where the young Californian drove three winners, his stable members are currently engaged at Hazel Park. On Tuesday, Del scored a double victory scoring with the pacer, Beulah Counsel in 2:12, and the trotter, Scotch Mc, in 2:10, the latter paying a neat 8.40 to win. The "big" horse in Dels stable is the well known free-for-all pacer Rilmas Widower, who entered the 2:00 list last fall at Hollywood Park with an effort in 1.59 when driven by Harry Burright ... Frank Taylor, the southern trainer well remembered in Chicago for his victories with Easter Flowers, Tiger Shine, Co-Op Scott, Billy Scotland and others, escaped injuries in a recent spill at Hazel Park. Ladys Leon, who started only twice last year, displayed his winning form for the second time this season at Hazel Park to take a BB pace in 2:11 with Red Scott at the reins. The 9-year-old gelding returned to action on April 15 at Maywood Park in the colors of his new owner, Mrs. Eleanore James, Wheatou, 111., and won in 2:14. Direct Haven, another member of the James menage and trainer by Red Scott, also repeated his recent Maywood Park victory at the Motor City five-furlong track last week when dead-heating with the Ohio-owned Kristmite driven by Floyd j Hannis, winner of last years 0,000 Open Trot at Sportsmans Park with Risen Sun. Ronnie Baldwin, the leading rider at the current Sportsmans Park meeting, enjoyed an evening with the trotters here accompanied by former jockey Johnny Cochran, now a valet at the various Chicago tracks . . . Burlap-voiced Rochester, factotum of the Jack iJenny show, thinks this is an easy game to beat. On his visit here the other night he followed j the selection of the program handicapper and had six winners . . . Grandma Bur-rigrhts husband, Forrest, still remembers the wonderful time he had a few years ago in New York, when the missus was still active in the sulky. Some fuy in the publicity department put the newspaper photographers on his trail and after they took half a dozen pictures of the "rich, retired farmer," Forrest burst out: "What you do with all them pictures? Sell em?" . . . Dave Taddeo remarking on the successful invader from New York, Lou Rapone: "I know talen when I see it."
