Coastal Light in Front Throughout at Camden Revels in Muddy Going, Leading Brass Ring Home by Two Lengths By FRED GALIANI Staff Correspondent GARDEN STATE PARK, Camden, N. J., May 10. Regular Monday racing returned to Garden State Park today under miserable weather conditions, but a good sized throng of 16,499 turned out for the afternoon, attesting to the overwhelming popularity of the sport. Rain fell throughout the day and a raw, penetrating chill pervaded the air. Favorite players were rewarded though in the Hoboken Purse, when Joe Gavegnanos odds-oh Coastal Light was a convincing winner. Eased up at the finish by Sammy Boul-metis, Coastal Light, with not a speck, of mud on him, went unaer the wire two lengths before Ridge Stables Brass Ring. Boulmetis had the favorite far in front in the stretch, took a brief look on each side Continued on Page Forty-Five Coastal Light in Front Throughout at Camden Revels in Muddy Going, Leading Brass Ring Home by Two Lengths Continued from Page Three for opposition and finding none snugged his mount the last couple of yards. Brass Ring headed Mrs. J. Gomez Shining On for place money in the field of seven. For ail practical purposes it was actually six as Blimey, part of the Kencal Stud entry with Best Fleet, unseated Charley Burr at the start. Coastal Light paid .60 and covered the mile arid a sixteenth in 1:45 over the muddy track. A candidate for the Delaware Valley and Cherry Hill Stakes, the son of Coastal Traffic was winning his second straight in four outings this year. Coastal Light outraced his field from the start, while Blimey stumbled rnd unseated Burr right at the gate. The favorite quickly opened up a three -length lead and the race was over from that point. Nothing got near to him the entire trip and he was shaken only mildly in the upper stretch by Boulmetis. Shining On was the closest pursuer for most of the journey, but had to strike his colors when Brass Ring eventually made his move. The latter trailed for most of the journey then made his move on the far turn. He came through on the rail, saving ground, then was taken to the outs ie in the stretch run, running down Shining On in the final strides. E. Navarros Brook Prince ran a swift 1:11 for the six furlongs in the Jersey Belle Purse that held the nominal feature spot as the seventh race. The Eight Thirty colt, with ears pinned back, was whipped across the finish by Walter Carrion to score by three-quarters of a length over R. Lehmans Count Me Out. The latter put away Brookfield Farms Influence by a length, and he was third by daylight over the remaining quartet that included the disappointing favorite, Leslie Jane Stables Freedom Parlay. Brook Prince was a mild surprise and paid 2.00. The public installed Miss Ann Uhlars Mountain Holly a 7-to-10 choice in the East Orange Purse for three-year-old fillies, and they were secured in their investment by a handy length and a half triumph. Sammy Boulmetis, who went to sleep and just missed with Barclay Stables Reddy Ro in the third race, this time took no chances until he was sure, and then began easing Mountain Holly in hand approaching the wire.
