PHAELATER was rated close to the pace from the start, and passing HONEY-KIST around the far. turn, was soon challenged by SOUTH COVERT, but saved ground on the stretch turn while the latter went wide and going well to the finish appeared the stronger of the two at the end. SOUTH COVERT was far back of the leaders for the first half mile, then rushed up on the outside nearing the far- turn and drew up almost equal with PHAELATER on the stretch turn, then seemed to hang in the final drive. MYSTIC CHIEF went fairly well and passed tiring horses. STAGGERING IN closed some ground. FIGHTING ANNIE was unable to keep up. HONEY-KIST tired badly. OFF AT 2:32 CENTRAL DAYLIGHT TIME. Start good. Won driving; second and third the same. HURRICANE went to the front at once to hug the rail on the first turn and draw into a good lead and was not in serious danger of losing the leadership thereafter, although hustled along to the end. STEERSMAN was in close quarters soon after the start, then improved" his position on the backstretch to finish gamely on the inside and ran a good race. STEPPING UP was closest to the early pace and weakened slightly near the finish. MON BAISER finished fairly well. ILLSTAY was used up reaching contention and tired. WASSE WAS FRACTIOUS IN THE PADDOCK; WAS ORDERED WITHDRAWN AND MONEY WAGERED ON HER WAS REFUNDED. SUE-TE-PAUL saved ground on the second turn when the early leaders raced wide to take command and, going steadily to the finish, had enough left to withstand a closing bid by LITTLE BURDEN. The latter, going well from the start, improved her position steadily and was gaining at the finish. BABS BOY closed some ground in the last quarter. ROSEBUR GIRL was badly outrun for a half mile, but was going well at the finish. DISCHARGE and MR. NEAL raced very wide on the second turn. SWANEES PENNY was rated within striking distance of the early leaders for five furlongs, then made a steady run on the outside of BARBARA L. in the stretch to wear her down and get her to the front near the finish. BARBARA L. headed MIRTHFUL on the outside after leaving the backstretch, then went well to the finish. BIENVILLE lacked the speed to keep up, but was going well in the middle of the track at the end. MIRTHFUL headed the field after going a quarter, but weakened in the final drive. BALLAPOOL had early speed, but quit badly. Overweight Barbara L., 2 pounds. Bienville claimed by A. L Peterson. POLTROON moved up on the outside nearing the stretch turn and went steadily to the finish. HELENTOWN saved ground where possible in a steady effort. JULIES JEWEL tired. WOOD H had some early speed. FLYING GYPSY was a prominent contender from the start and, heading the field midway cn the backstretch, withstood a challenge from GALLANT ANSWER on the stretch turn and slowly drew away from the latter near the end. GALLANT ANSWER moved up on equal terms with the leader on the stretch turn, but seemed to falter in the final drive. SKY JEEP lost considerable ground on the second turn and raced well up from the rail thereafter but finished with good courage. MR. BEANO failed to be a serious factor. THE SNAPPER had good speed for five furlongs, then began to tire. WORTHY SIS was badly outrun. QUEENS REGRET was off poorly. Overweight Flying Gypsy, 1 pound; Queens Regret, 3. MALABAR was well rated while racing on the outside and close to the leaders, then finished strongly to best LADY BUSTER narrowly following a hard last sixteenth due!. The latter was rated close to the pace and took a short lead on the stretch turn, then went well to the end while racing on the inside of MALABAR and barely missed. JAY EDWARD made the pace under good rating, but appeared to falter in the last sixteenth. BLACK CANASTA was in tight quarters almost continually while racing on the inside. The latter trailed for well over half the distance, then came very wide and ort the outside of TO STAY in the stretch, but was pressing the latter. LONE PILOT was rated close up and made a good bid to show in front entering the last sixteenth, but was unable to withstand the first two. WISEVIEW saved ground while making her run to finish well. THUMB ROCK raced with JIMSTOWN early and headed the latter a couple of times between calls, then took a short lead on the stretch turn, but was eased up from her early effort.
