Senate Republican Leader William F. Knowland said today the administrations massive tax overhaul bill should be out of. the Senate Finance Committee and called up for debate in about two weeks. Smothers Charges France, Britain Laxity WASHINGTON, D. C., May 10. Senator George A. Smathers charged today France and Britain have shown in the Indochina crisis they no longer can be counted on as U. S. partners against "Communist aggression." Mandatory Rules of Fair Procedure a Must NEW YORK, N. Y., May 10. Representative Jacob K. Javits R., N. Y. called upon the administration today to place mandatory rules of fair procedure for congressional investigating committees on its "must" list for enactment at this session of Congress. Truman Urges Eisenhower on Foreign Policy WASHINGTON, D. C, May 10. Former President Truman said today it is up to President Eisenhower to restore bi-partisanship in foreign policy by giving5a "clear lead" and by putting a checkrein on "political assassins" in his own party. He urged Mr. Eisenhower to spell out his foreign policy in "clear-cut" terms so Democrats can know what they are called upon to support. FOREIGN: Queen Pledges Gibraltars Safety GIBRALTAR, May 10. Britains Queen Elizabeth n., in a tense royal visit to this rock fortress which Spain claims, today pledged its "sure safekeeping" by the British. The queen appeared under protection of the most stringent security measures enforced since wartime. Queen Elizabeth stepped ashore from the royal yacht Britannia to a crashing salute of 21 guns and three cheers from massedtroops. Jordan, Israel in New Dispute JERUSALEM, Palestine, May 10. Jordan and Israel charged each other with new border violations today, alleging a total of seven Arabs and Jews killed and three wounded in more than a half-dozen clashes. Jordan accused Israeli forces of five attacks .today along the frontier in the Tulkarm area in which four Arabs were killed and another wounded. U.S., Britain Conduct Talks on Defenses LONDON, England, May 10. The United States and Britain are conducting exploratory talks on Southeast Asia defenses, Minister of State Selwyn Lloyd told the House of Commons today. Nehru Praises Presidents Peace Plan NEW DELHI, India,, May 10. Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru today praised the "generous sentiments" of President Eisenhowers atoms, for-peace plan. But he said th agency could become a "super state," beyond control of the United Nations. x Agree to Evacuate Wounded French GENEVA, Switzerland, May 10. The Communist Indochinese Viet Minh agreed belatedly today to evacuate the "seriously wounded" French Union forces from the shattered North Indochinese fortress of Dien Bien Phu, overrun and conquered Friday. Chinese Communists Tangle With Rebels HANOI, Indochina, May 10. "Important" Chinese Communist infantry units and a Chinese artillery regiment fought with rebel Indochinese captors of Dien Bien Phu, informed French military sources said today. Grahams Crusade Attracts 1,068,680 LONDON, England, May 10. A total of 1,068,680 Britons has attended the Greater London crusade revival meetings of American evangelist Billy Graham, his organization announced Sunday. It added that Grahams crusade is the first to attract a million persons since the Billy Sunday campaign in New York in the early 1900s. Moscow Ballets Appearance Suspended PARIS, France, May 10. Frances Ministry of the Interior suspended today the Moscow Ballets appearance at the Paris Opera because of the possibility of disorders stemming from the fall of Dien Bien Phu.
