Tom Gibbs Dies at 69 BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., May 10. It was learned at Belmont Park today that Tom Gibbs, 89, died of pneumonia Saturday night at St. Marys Hospial, Brooklyn. Gibbs was a retired blacksmith, who plated such turf immortals as Syson-by, Colin and Whisk Broom II. in the early days of the century. He also plated Paul Jones, who beat Upset in the Kentucky Derby. The remains are at 370 Grand Avenue, Brooklyn and funeral services will be held Wednesday morning.
