Donald Pinksfaff Suffers Serious Injuries in Fall WHEELING DOWNS, Wheeling, W.Va., May 10. Donald Albert Pinkstaff, 28-year-old Vincennes, Ind., rider, suffered a fracture of the fifth cervical vertebrae, an internal disc hernia and multiple lacerations of a spill in the seventh race on Saturday. Pinkstaff s mount, Mad John, fell heavily when being pulled up after finishing second in the featured Weirton Purse. From the stands it appeared that the horse became very tired over the heavy racing strip, stumbled from his efforts and fell throwing Pinkstaff on the back of his neck and shoulder. Track physician Randolph J. Hersey attended the rider and supervised his removal to Wheeling General Hospital where further X-ray and examination disclosed the extent of his injuries. Pinkstaff, who now resides in Columbus, Ohio, will probably be laid up about three months.
