Young Sires Get Doing Quite Well But It Is Still Difficult To Drive Older Stallions From Their Coveted Perch LEXINGTON, Ky., May 29.— While it is much too early to attempt the selection of two-year-old champions for the year, certain individuals in this age division are making their presence known_ and it is interesting from this breeding center to note that the get of "young stallions are being heard from in a prominent manner. This is not to say that they have driven the „ oldsters to cover. Spy Songs son Royal Note is considered by some to be still at the head of the parade. Unbeaten, he has flirted with track records in his debut and in three stakes tallies and he has yet to feel the sting of a whip. Romans son Commonwealth has given every indication that he has what it takes. Nashua, who is in Nasrullahs first American crop, has not been disgraced though defeated. Polynesians Islander was impressive in the colt division of the National Stallion Stakes. In California Bull Leas Trentonian has done well enough by winning two starts to impress his Calumet stable affiliations who are not too easily impressed. j Excellent Record j Colts like these may make it difficult for j the younger stallions to land their get in top j positions but it must be remembered that ! there is a considerable difference between the mares in the books of the sires named above and those in the early years of their stud careers. However, Billings has come up with Top Traffic, I Will with Will See, The Doge with Boston Dodge and Bolero with Wreck Master which must be some encouragement. Among the fillies Menolene provided something of an upset for pedigree pundits when she scored over the best of her sex in the Rancocas Stakes although the wagering public was not deceived as they made her favorite over eleven opponents. This is not to say that there is a flaw in her pedigree but rather that her sire Bull Brier is not considered quite Chestnut Hill. Immediately back of Menolene was Courtesy, by Nasrullah, who, with Delta by the same sire, had been carrying the Claiborne silks very encouragingly. Fantine Busher, by Mr. Busher, made third in the race after having accounted for her only other start. Smart Devil, by Devil Diver and a miss who is highly regarded in these parts, was fifth after being forced to race wide. These fillies and a few others such as High Voltage, by Ambiorix, who took the filly division of the National Stallion, appear to be forming the nucleus of what, to date, may prove an excellent crop of juvenile misses.
