Fastest Mile by Woman BIRMINGHAM, England, May 29 UP. — Diane Leatheran, a 21-year-old Birmingham University micro-analyist, ran the fastest mile ever achieved by a woman today when she was clocked in four minutes, 59.6 seconds in the Midland womens athletic championships. Earlier in the week Miss Leatheran was clocked in five minutes, 00.2 seconds beating the old record set by Romanias Miss E. Trybel by one-tenth of a second.
