1,515 Mares Nominated To Golden Slipper -57 MELBOURNE, Aus., May 29.— The Sydney Turf Glubs Golden Slipper Stakes for 2-year-olds — to be run at Rosehill in March, 1957 — will match the Melbourne Cup prize of 3,750, Australias richest stake. Entries have closed with 1,515 mares nominated. * The total comprised 840 from New South Wales, 345 from New Zealand, 246 from Victoria, 59 from Queensland and I other interstate stud matrons. Horses for the Golden Slipper Stakes are eligible by the entry of their dams in the season the mares are mated. As an incentive to Thoroughbred breeders to enter mares, the owner of the mare producing the winner will receive 12 per cent of the prize. New Zealands leading nursery, Alton Lodge, plans to ship 43 mares to Sydney.
