Dashing Count in Quest Of More Ascot Laurels Seeks Sixth Win of Meeting in Holiday Closing-Day Feature ASCOT PARK, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, May 29 — Ascot Park brings down the curtain Monday afternoon on its very successful spring meeting. A fine program for the large holiday crowd has been arranged by racing secretary Raleigh Leigh. Ascot Park, with all things considered, had an excellent meeting. The figures on the session both in attendance and mutuel play are going to show small declines, but the track experienced the wettest and one of the coldest springs in the history on Northern Ohio There was not a fast track at the meethig until the 27th day of the meeting. Furthermore the poor weather caused a two-day hiatus in the sport when it was decided that the strip was in an unsafe condition for the jockeys to ride over. The meeting had other obstacles also. One afternoon the starting gate broke down and it was necessary to start the races with walkup starts which quite naturally cut heavily into the play. Getting top billing on Monday will be the Memorial Day Purse at seven furlongs which has drawn a limit field of 10 including two horses on the also eligible list. The association has posted a ,000 purse and the race has been written for three-year-olds and upward under allowance conr ditions. The track for Mondays sport will probably be no better than slow. Mrs. Virginia McKenneys good looking gelded son of Count Fleet, Dashing Count, will head the field in the feature. Dashing Count, to be ridden by Gail Parker, will be seeking his eighth victory of the season and his sixth of the current meeting. Dashing Count has been rested for the past two weeks. In his last race the gelding got to the wire three parts of a length to the good of Plumelette, a scheduled starter in this race. Dashing Count was all out to win this race, but -was shouldering top weight of 124 in the handicap. Slated to face Dashing Count are Clear-brook, Prince Rival, Diablo, Little Money, As Ordered, Smiling Eyes. Dutch King, Fid-dlin Mac, Plumelette, Dear Moo- , and Ronnie Lee. Leo Eichlers Clearbrook is well suited in the race and may provide Dashing Count with the stiffest competition. The daughter of Beautiful n. will be out to extend a two-race winning streak. Clearbrook won here on May 26th defeating Prince Rival by almost three lengths. Before that she beat . Better Buy by three parts of a length. Lou Riyera, who lias been astride the mare in her winning races, will once again, have the mount on Monday.
