Penn State Drops Boxing From Its Athletic Program STATE COLLEGE, Pa., May 29 UP.— Pennsylvania State University dropped boxing from its intercollegiate athletic program today after 36 years as a leading advocate of the sport. Athletic director E. B. McCoy said the action resulted from "public apathy and scheduling difficulties" and declared "our people now look upon boxing as a sport of questionable value." Penn State organized its first boxing team in 1919 and opposed the University of Pennsylvania in what was believed to be the nations first dual meet.
