Penn State Drops Boxing From Its Athletic Program STATE COLLEGE, Pa., May 29 UP.— Pennsylvania State University dropped boxing from its intercollegiate athletic program today after 36 years as a leading advocate of the sport. Athletic director E. B. McCoy said the action resulted from "public apathy and scheduling difficulties" and declared "our people now look upon boxing as a sport of questionable value." Penn State organized its first boxing team in 1919 and opposed the University of Pennsylvania in what was believed to be the nations first dual meet. The Nittaiiy Lions served as host to the first Eastern tournament in 1924 and the first Rational Collegiate tournament Xr 19.? » i
