En Rapport Outclasses Delaware Park Rivals Speeds to Impressive Victory In Polly Drummond Qualifier By FRED GALIANI DELAWARE PARK, Stanton, Del., June 4. Making it two scores in two starts and qualifying nicely for next Wednesdays Polly Drummond Stakes, Mrs. Walter iff. Jeffords En Rapport sped to an impressive" victory in the Beaugay Purse here this afternoon. With Jack Westrope shaking his stick at her through the stretch, but not using it on her, the juvenile daughter of Natchez Clinging Vine sped the five furlongs in the good time of :59, a full second off the track record set by Beaugay when she won the Polly Drummond here in 1945. Taking the lead soon after the start, En Rapport came to the finish two lengths before Louis Lee Haggins Smart Devil, while C. V. Whitneys Whitewash was third and James A. Bayards Alapocas was a distant fourth in the field of six. The first four are all eligible to the Polly Drummond. The Jeffords filly was a slight choice with the majority of the crowd of 10,750 and returned .40. A homebred, she had won her only prior start scampering down the Widener course to win a maiden test. This was the third victory in three days for the Jeffords silks, which are always prominently flaunted at this meeting. Smart Devil spilled out of the gate first, but En Rapport was right on her heels and within a few strides had streaked to the front. She paced her rival all the way, while Whitewash ranged up on the turn to be in third place. Neither Smart Devil nor Whitwash could cope with En Rapports speed. She won by daylight and was ridden out.
