r ,1.- .... R. E. LANNY LE1GHNINGER Leighninger Colorado State Steward for Centennial Meet LITTLETON, Colo., June 4. R. E. "Lanny" Leighninger, widely known figure in Western thoroughbred racing, will be steward representing-the State of Colorado for the fifth year when Centennial Race Track opens its 50 -day season July 2. Leighninger, who has represented the-Colorado Racing Commission at Centennial since the track opened in 1950, joins presiding steward R. S. Tomlinson and associate Charles Dougherty in the stand, completing the line-up of stewards for 1954. As publicity chief of West Coast tracks from Longacres, Wash., to Caliente in Mexico, he arranged such memorable promotions as the U. S. invasion of Australias great champion, Phar Lap. Leighninger Has been state steward for Washington and a steward at Longacres, Caliente, Bay Meadows, Hollywood Park, Tanforan and Golden Gate Fields.
