Determine Hollywood Starter Today Derby Winner Vies With The Pie King Debonair Stakes Will Give Little Crevolin Colt Prep For 00,000 Californian HOLLYWOOD PARK, Inglewood, Calif., June 4. Kentucky Derby winner Determine makes his first start since capturing the "Run for the Roses" tomorrow in the 5,-000 Debonair Stakes at Hollywood Park against a swift band of three-year-olds. Andrew J. Crevolins stout-hearted little gray has been rested since his victory at Louisville a month ago and trainer Willie Molter announced Determine was ready to resume campaigning. Molter and Crevolin did not pick an easy spot for the son of Alibhai in the Debonair Stakes. The race also marks the American debut of The Pie King, juvenile champion of England, who has been kept away from the races by a series of minor ailments since he was imported last fall. The Debonair drew the names of 10 colts and geldings through the racing secretarys entry box this morning. Weights for the seven-iunuiig spimu aie auaicu nuiu mo 126 pounds carried by Determine down to 110 pounds which will be carried by six of the contenders including The Pie King. York on Derby Winner Calumet Farms Arrogate and film star Betty Grables James Session were assigned 122 pounds while the speedy Lucky Martin carries 118 pounds. The others, besides The Pie King, that carry 110 pounds are Rolyat, Fault Free, Kings Mutiny, Hobcaw Sage and First Pole. Ray York, whose confident ride aboard Determine drew the praise of turf followers in the Kentucky Derby, again will be aboard the Crevolin champion, which goes as a Molter-trained entry with Kings Mutiny. Through an oversight, Determine was not nominated for the Belmont. As a result, Crevolin brought his colt back to California rather than keep him in the East, because he could not seek the "Triple Crown" of the Derby, Preakness and the Belmont. The colt is a nominee for Hollywood Parks new 00,000 stake, the Californian, June 12, in which he would be asked to carry 115 pounds. He also is being pointed for the 0,000 Westerner July 3, the-top stakes for three-year-olds at the meeting. In making his first start of the meeting in the Debonair, Determine will be seeking to make it a double for his owner in the race, which Imbros won last year, one of three stakes the son of Polynesian took at the meeting, although the Westerner eluded him. The Pie King has been working well and owner Ray Bell and Elwood Johnston were hopeful that he had conquered the shin trouble that shelved him since his arrival in the United States.
