Begin Construction Work On Clubhouse at Cahokia Prefabricated Steel Ready to Be Assembled forTri-Level Structure By C. A. LINDEMAN Staff Correspondent EAST ST. LOUIS, 111., June 4 Now that construction of the grandstand is nearing completion at Cahokia Downs, work is ready to start on the new three-level clubhouse. Cement was poured for the founda-j tion last, week and the prefabricated steel : is ready to be assembled. The clubhouse! . will be located to the right of the longj grandstand, which with the two structures, practically the entire stretch of the three-! quarter mile oval will be covered. j General manager James Hopkins, revealed that the clubhouse will be the best of its kind in the state. The entire second floor will be devoted to the dining room I which will have private boxes the full length from which boxholders can dine as well as view the running of the races without leaving their seats. For the added comfort of the dinner guest boxholders, the entire second floor is to be air-conditioned. The third and top floor of the spacious clubhouse will be devoted to seating of over 3,00 fans and mutuel windows for their convenience. From the ground floor level patrons may take in the beautifully : . j I landscaped grounds, as well as view the horses being saddled. Just back of the grandstand and close to the clubhouse is the saddling paddock and landscaped walking rings. There, patrons may get a close up of their choices j and also see at close range the act of sad-. dling. Prom the saddjing paddock and walking ring the horses will be paraded to the main track via a tunnel beneath the west end of the grandstand. The past week saw workmen finishing up the vast job of tile setting on all the mutuel window area, as well as the concession .stands, all of which are done in a real attractive pale blue and green tile. Wide stairs provide ample room to ascend and descend to the main floor for the purpose of making wagers and visiting the various concession stands. Hopkins reports that with the present rate the construction is progressing there is little or no doubt but that the plant will be in readiness far before the scheduled I opening date of July 27.
