Cubs Sign Longhorn Star AUSTIN, Texas, June 4. UP. The Chicago Cubs have signed Travis Eckert, University of Texas outfielder, and assigned him to Gainesville, Texas, in the Sooner State league. Eckert, 22 and a ;350 hitter the past two seasons with the Southwest conference champion Longhorns, was signed by Cub scout -Roy Johnson.
