Ten Horses Die, Harness Driver Injured in Ohio Fire MARION, Ohio, June 4. Fire swept through a county fairgrounds stable here today, seriously hurting one person, killing 10 horses, and causing damage of about 5,000. Seriously burned was Byron Perry, well-known local harness racing driver and trainer, who suffered second and third degree burns in rescuing three horses before being overcome by smoke. Two horses owned by Carl Cull of Marion and valued at 0,000 perished in the fire along with two horses owned by Gene English of Larue, also valued at 0,000. Dr. C. G. Smith, who treated Perry, lost three horses valued at ,500. Three pali-mino riding horses owned by Joanne Krueger valued at ,500 were destroyed. Acting fire chief Mike Stafford said the fire spread rapidly throughout the stable and that the building was a total loss before the fire could be brought under control.
