ASTRONAUT was briskly urged to repulse REPLACEMENT on the final turn, then responded gamely when challenged by SANDYS CHANCE in the stretch and out-finished that rival. SANDYS CHANCE, well placed from the beginning, rushed up to head ASTRONAUT settling into the stretch, then attempted to lug in and hung. SELDOM SORRY broke slowly and was sluggish responding to urging, but came between horses in the stretch-and finished fastest of all. KAZ raced wide. REPLACEMENT raced well into the stretch, then swerved and faltered. BLUE FOG did not menace. LORD CHADWYNNE was carried out by KAZ on the turn. DERRY was hustled along within striking distance, continued well in the final stages to wear down HAPPY IS and then outfinished SWIZZIE. The latter was steered outside of horses for clear racing on the turn, bore in and impeded rivals, but was closing fast at the end. SWIZZLE was disqualified for impeding horses in the stretch run and he was placed fourth. HAPPY IS raced along freely holding a commanding lead into the last furlong, then suddenly faltered. DANNY 0. finished gamely despite being crowded and bumped in the stretch drive. BOBBYS BULL could not find clear racing room for the drive. BLACK MOLLIE stopped suddenly after a half-mile. LEE LERNER was blocked on the stretch turn. DRY MARTINI WAS FRACTIOUS AND INJURED HIMSELF IN THE PADDOCK, AND HE WAS ORDERED WITHDRAWN. A CONSOLATION DAILY DOUBLE WAS PAID AND ALL OTHER WAGERS ON HIM WERE REFUNDED. Scratched— 19759 Dry Martini, 114; 16537 Jersey Impulse, 107. Overweight— Bogie Miss, 1 pound. VALCARIE hooked up with NATCHEZ MAID at the beginning, carried that rival a trifle wide on the turn, then dropped down to the rail at the head of the stretch and continued determinedly to gain the decision. NATCHEZ MAID held a slight early advantage, was forced out by VALCARIE on the turn, then held on well in the drive. PEE GEE found an opening at the head of the stretch and closed well for his placing. GIN MINT had no mishap. FIVE-BY-FIVE broke tardily, but quickly gained stride and raced into prominence, then tired. Overweight— Miss Bacchant, 1 pound; Reine Lea, 2; Swift Gail, 1; Caroline, 2. FOURTH RACE 5 FURLONGS. KEENSON, steadied closest to the pace, was placed under a hard drive entering the stretch, wrested command hearing the end, but couldnot hold the winner. DR. BEN R. was driven through close quarters next to the rail while challenging in the stretch, then hung. NOBLE SONG held a commanding lead into the stretch, then weakened under hard urging. HUNTSVILLE steadily made up ground when put to pressure after a quarter mile and wrested command from DOC WALKER in the closing yards. The latter was rated along setting the pace and held on fairly well under urging in the final run. HICKORY HILL was well placed behind the top ones, but lacked a sufficient rally. BYE AND BYE drifted out in the drive, but closed willingly. BROOK PRINCE broke poorly and could not reach the leaders. LIGHT STEP was outrun. POMPOSITY broke badly and trailed into the stretch. WINNING COUNT, closely followed the inner rail throughout, found room to challenge when urged on the fianl turn and, after gaining a short advantage over IRON HEEL, continued determinedly to garner the. decision. IRON HEEL was under steady pressure setting the pace, drifted a trifle wide into the stretch and was displaced, "then gamely attempted to. come again. STORMY PETREL gave n even effort and finished well. COASTAL LIGHT, probably much the best, crouched at the break and left the gate several lengths last, raced along freely to the stretch, then came to the middle of the track and closed fast under strong urging. 1FAB0DY and TIERCEL were used up early.
