The Maryland commission is not represented being a ruling body, but Shuger cited an indication of its respect for the councils opinions. One of the councils first recommendations was a plan to bar cheap horses from racing at the states major tracks, the deciding factor being based upon the purse money for which a horse has placed. When this was broached to the Maryland commission, said Shuger, it took them exactly two minutes to approve it. "Since the groups involved were all represented and obviously had well thrashed out the matter, their recommendation was speedily acted upon," he commented. "This is one of "racings most forward steps, in that all phases of the sport meet and discuss problems -in advance. It would be a good thing for other states to follow." AAA J. W. Rodgers Due de Fer, who finished third in the recent Shevlin Stakes at Aqueduct, will check out of here for Chicago for a couple of engagements. ZThrough an oversight, the colt was not named for any stakes here. Trainer Eddie Brumfield will keep Due de Fer in the Midwest for the running of the Classic. ... Willie" Hartack, who starts his 10 -day suspension today, will spend it at his farm near Charles Town, W. Va., while his agent, Chick Lang, will take it easy at his Baltimore home. AAA Miguel Perez Pita, of the Havana commission, reveals that Carlos Campos, who has taken over the operation of Oriental Park the last two years has been granted a 30-year concession on the famed old track. A newcomer to. the sport, Campos plans a number of changes, including the installation of a totalisator, but a few books will be kept for those who prefer to wager against the price makers, which, agrees Pita, is more popular in Havana than mutuels . . . The Tough Club, almost 1,000 members strong, made their annual pilgrimage to Monmouth. yesterday. The Tough Club, established in 1865, is an old political organization which hails from the west side of New York City . . . Eddie Anspach shipped Irving Gushens Soldier Son back to Rockingham after his Longfellow Handicap effort yesterday News Again, who won the first division of the Longfellow, will return for the Monmouth Handicap on July 24, according to „ owner-trainer Mbrrie Sidell, who left for his Methuen, Mass., home with the loot. AAA Belmont Evans, who was in an auto accident during the Garden State meeting with injuries more serious than at first thought, has recovered and is ready to resume his training profession. Evans, who was one of the first to import horses from South America, is presently at his Westbury, L. I., home . . . George Howell has taken over two Royal Charger horses to train, including Wild Orange, a full sister to Turn-to, regarded as the top sophomore this year until his early retirement. Wild Orange will race for Town-send Martin. The other Royal Charger is Ossain, one of two youngsters Howell will condition for M. C. Erlanger. AAA Ian Wilson of the admission department has been discharged from Riyerview Hospital, Red Bank, where he underwent .a kidney operation. It was only this past April that Wilson was hospitalized in Miami for surgery. To make matters worse, his room at the Riverview Hospital overlooked the tennis courts, which gave him no end of mental pain. Wilson is an avid tennis play-, er and is a brother-in-law of Gardner Mul-loy . . . Sidney Jacobs brought his Right Down back from Aqueduct where he won the Tremont Stakes. The youngster is eligible for only one stake here, the Sapling on closing day, but all Sid is worrying about is the New York City use tax he has to pay on the horse for yesterdays race.
