. Dotty Redbird Has Lead Throughout Creech Youngster Defeats Pvt. Sam by Three and Half Lengths at ThistlePown By RONALD KRANCER Staff Correspondent THISTLEDOWN, North Randall, Ohio, June 24.— Leading from start to finish Mrs. A. M. Creechs Dotty Redbird captured the featured Chillicothe Purse here this afternoon in a handy manner from Ed A. Bischoffs fast-closing Pvt. Sam. Three lengths separated the two at the wire with E. W. Haynes Gilded King third, another three lengths back at the end of the five furlongs. Apprentice Al Whiting was aboard the " winning daughter of Papa Redbird and as a team they were timed in 1:00 over the fast track. Dotty Redbird was the first winning choice of the afternoon and paid .40. Oddly the winner is one of the few horses entered in the Chillicothe that was not nominated for the ,500 added Endurance Stakes to be contested a week from Saturday. Jolly Dolly Chases Leader A crowd of 5,323 turned out this afternoon to witness the eight-race program which was conducted in perfect ■ June weather. Jolly Dolly, from the successful stable of Tommy Stevens, chased the winning filly while on the backstretch and on the final turn got to a half length of the leader while in along the rail. Our Only One was third and Baileys Pride was a tiring fourth, at that point. Dotty Redbird drew clear of Jolly Dolly entering the stretch and as she passed the furlong marker was in front by a length and a half. Our Only One was another two lengths off the pace third and Gilded King was in fourth position. Through late stretch, Dotty Redbird in- Continued on Page Fifty-Two Dotty Redbird Has Lead Throughout Creech Youngster Defeats Pvt. Sam, negotiating a move while in the middle of the track, was up to gain second money. By winning with Dotty Redbird, trainer Benny Creech now moves into a tie with Tommy Stevens and "Doc" Ensor for leading trainer honors at this meeting, all having six winners to their credit. Tater Whatleys Aileens Pride scored an upset tally in the fourth race when she prevailed by a nose over R. E. McConnells Rigor Mortis. Another outsider, Dillifilly, was third another three and a half lengths removed at the end of the six furlongs. The winner was nicely handled by Ralph Borgemenke and paid 8.40 being timed in 1:12. The heavily backed favorite, Joe Graves, turned in a miserable effort under Bill Carstens and wound up next to last in the eight-horse field. Deeside went out and set the early pace in the race with another speed merchant, Ghibli, second and Aileens Pride in third position on the run up the backstretch. Joe Graves, who had broken in fifth position, was now in seventh position. Deeside Still in Front Deeside was still in front as the horses raced around the far turn, Ghibli was second and the ultimate victress was in third spot only a length off the pace. Rigor Mortis was another notch back. Rigor Mortis with a fine burst of speed from the outside appeared to show in front for a split second just above the furlong marker, but Aileens Pride along the inside was not to be denied and at the furlong marker had gone into a half length lead with Rigor Mortis on the outside second and Deeside now a weary third. Rigor Mortis gamely fought back through the late stretch, but Aileens Pride proved worthy of the task and gained the narrowest of decisions. Dillifilly was up to take third money by another *nostril over Cortina. Rigor Mortis turned in a gratifying race for trainer-Haymaker. The six-year-old Pass Out gelding was only making his second start in well over two years and may be getting back into top shape. He pulled up sound following his race. At one time Rigor Mortis was one of the most feared of the handicap performers at Randall and Waterford Parks. The Windsor Farm stables Jodisu finally broke his maiden in the first race when he led Track Wise to the wire by three lengths in 1:13. Jodisu was ridden by Dante Rizzo and paid .20. Track Wise, who opened at 15 to 1, came up a good thing and went off as the/heavy choice. The second event went to A. B. Kars-ners Something in a thrilling nose decision over Vince McCarthys Moro. Stride Away was third another six lengths back at the end of the six furlongs. The winner paid 3.80 and was timed in 1:12. The Daily Double returned 5.
