Beeston, Reserve Fund Vie at Fairmount Park Winners at Collinsville Track Among Dozen in Venice Purse By C. A. LINDEMAN Staff Correspondent FAIRMOUNT PARK, Collinsville, 111., June 24. — Friday nights card of nine races will be headlined by the Venice Purse, a sprint affair at six furlongs, and a full field of 12 have been named to face starter R. H. McMillan. The race is fashioned for horses that have started for a claiming price of ,600 or less this meeting. Of those named the main contention appears to be between the fleet sprinters Beeston, a double winner at this* meeting; Reserve Fund, victor of three short races plus a second and one third out of six starts at this session. F. V. Smiths five-year-old Beeston will be breaking from the outside post position with 114 pounds up tomorrow. He has only made four appearances at this meeting and was returned the winner of his next-to-last at six furlongs, scoring by a three-quarter length margin oyer Spitzerinktom and Newton Airds in 1:12. The son of Bluebeard is very fast away from the starting gate and may be able to take enough lead on the opposition tomorrow. Reserve Fund, from the stable of Camp and Nicholas, will be after his fourth straight victory of the current meeting in the Venice. He will be going up slightly in class but his best races indicate he may be able to hold his own with this type of company. In all of his races, the son of Spanish Goods has displayed good speed from the start and now that he is in his peak form he should be tough to handle here despite his 116 pounds. A Plus, owned by Miss A. Turner and a winner of one out of five starts at the meeting, looms as a real top challenger for the winners share of the Friday night feature. A Plus is a very game horse and is never too far from the pace at any stage. His last was with about the same type of speedsters as he is meeting tomorrow. He showed good early foot and can improve i off of that effort. * lfcfqsjw* rii. -tit o.f iiilil m Rita Cues eight-year-old mare, Scarlet Time, made it a repeat winning performance when she-romped home to take honors In the St. Louis Hills Purse, the feature, event on Wednesday, before a crowd qf 5,500 fans. Apprentice R. White rushed his mount away from the starting gate and, after racing head and head with the. determined Nans Pride to the f,tretchj was finally able to shake loose and, once in the clear, just widened at will. In winning- her second race in a row, Scarlet Time ran the six furlongs in exactly the same time of 1:11% that she racked up in her previous winning effort. This marked her third victory of the current meeting out of five starts. Hopeful Sam, the second choice, was a strongly closing second after having been a bit tardy in getting into best stride. Nans Pride, who made such a determined bid for the first half mile, just lasted to save the show end of the ,500 purse.
