Eight Sprinters Meet At Five, Half Furlongs Coruscate, Sistime and Mahplay Test Speed at ThistleDown Track THISTLEDOWN, North Randall, Ohio, June 24. — A band of eight sprinters will go five and one-half furlongs in the feature at this suburban Cleveland course on Friday. This race is a claiming event with horses being scaled from ,000-,500 depending on the amount of weight to be carried. The field will line up as follows: Sistime, Charley Foy, Coruscate, Red Romeo, Texas Coin, Ky. River, Mahplay, and Brown Ariel. Coruscate was claimed by John Wyn-koop from his last race for ,000, one in which he finished off the board in a dull performance. Since trainer Bill Bell has had the gelding he has been working well and apparently is ready for a winning race. He shipped here from the East with excellent credentials. Sistime will be making her initial start of the meeting, but did run an excellent race while at Ascot Park. Sistime has always been a danger in anything under six furlongs and may get a good portion of the play in this race. She has lots of early speed and may be hard to catch. Mahplay has been somewhat of a disappointment thus far in the ThistleDown campaign. The gelding is well suited at this distance and should be right there at the wire. In his last race over the track he was third to Brookhaven and Miss Cross, beaten only a length and a half after having been caught in close quarters in the vicinity of the three-eighths pole. Mrs. Robert Cramers Charley Foy was a trifle over his head the other afternoon and finished, a soundly beaten fifth. This one has early speed as a rule and could possibly carry it over the entire route on Friday. Ky. River has a liking for this track and won a race here early in the meeting when he bested Joe Graves by two lengths at six furlongs. Since that winning jaunt Ky. River has not shown too much, but against this type field could return to winning form. Billy Sackett will once again have the mount. Red Romeo, Brown Ariel, and Texas Coin will be making their first starts of the meeting.
