,000 Attend Religious sremony Held at Gansett AWTUCKET, R. I., June 24.— Narra-sett Park was the scene of a colorful gious ceremony last Sunday evening, n approximately 25,000 members of the holic faith celebrated the climax of the cesan observance of the Marian Year in /ices held on the race track. Every par-in the state of Rhode Island was repre-ted at the services. . solemn pontifical mass was celebrated the Most Rev. Russell J. McVinney, D.D., lop of Providence. There was a grand cession of church, state and civic lead ers. The dramatic moment of the religious rally came as 362 young girls, dressed in blue, white and gold, formed the living rosary at the beginning of the religious part of the ceremonies. The very Rev. Robert J. Slavin, O. P., president of Providence College, delivered the sermon, and said that Pope Pius XII., in declaring the Marian Year, had expressed the conviction that it would "serve to stimulate devotion to the Mother of God." The Marian Year closes next December 8. The rally was sponsored by the union of Holy Name Societies and was broadcast and telecast by local radio and television stations.
