Burns Takes Over as Starter For Chilcutt at Ak-Sar-Ben AK-SAR-BEN, Omaha, Nebr., June 24.— Carl Bums, veteran starter from Williams-town, Ky., will be the official starter for the remaining nine days of the Ak-Sar-Ben race meeting which ends Monday, July 5. Burns took over the Ak-Sar-Ben starting chores Wednesday afternoon from Noel "Chilly" Chilcutt, who left last night to start his annual official duties as steward at Seattle. Chilcutt has been the official starter at Ak-Sar-Ben since 1938. Burns has been starter at some of the nations leading tracks for the past 14 years. He has officiated at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Ark., for the last 10 years and has been starter at Wheeling Downs, Wheeling, W. Va., for nine years. He got the customary introduction to thoroughbred racing as a youngster when he lived near a race track and eventually got a job galloping horses. In 1926, Burns became assistant starter for George R. Palmer on the eastern Canadian circuit, and in 1932, official starter, at Devonshire, Canada. In 1933, he was starter atr Churchill Downs. „
