Change Start of Hurdle Races AQUEDUCT, L. I., N. Y., June 24.— J. E. Cooper, steeplechase and hurdle racing secretary, today made known that effective Monday, June 28, 1954 and thereafter, the start in the about one mile and three-quarters distance over hurdles will be moved back to just in front of the last hurdle on the front side at approximately the sixteenth pole from the starting point used heretofore alongside the water jump on the steeplechase course. The primary purpose of this change is to avoid crowding on the first turn, which happens from time to time because of the proximity of the start to the turn.
