Mays, Liddle Lead Giants To Victory Over Braves NEW YORK, N. Y., June 24 UP .— Willie Mays took over the major league home run leadership from Stan Musial today with a two -run blast that helped tiny Don Liddle pitch the New York Giants to a four-hit 2-1 triumph over the Milwaukee Braves. Mays crashed one of lefty Warren Spahns fast balls into the upper left-field stands in the second inning for his twenty-third home run of the season. The blow, which followed a single by Don Mueller, was Mays fifth homer in the last four games and provided Liddle with the margin for his first complete game victory this year. Liddle, making his first start against his old teammates, walked only one batter and yielded Milwaukees lone run when Andy Pafko tagged him for his eighth homer of the year in the second inning. After Pafkos homer, Liddle did not permit a Milwaukee player to reach second base. He allowed two singles in the fifth inning, but on the first of these Pafko was thrown out stealing before Danny OCon-nell lined a hit to left. The only other hit off Liddle was Del Crandalls single off the left-field wall in the eighth inning, which outfielder Monte Irvin trapped, throwing Crandall out at second base. Spahn gave up, only seven hits and did not walk a batter in suffering the setback, which evened his season record at 7-7. The triumph was the thirty-third in the last 45 i m§st|orte/Giants. , t*uZili ujitc i x , !
