Dr. Wallace Graham, one-time White House physician, removed a gangrenous gall bladder and infected appendix. Draft Calf of 23,000 in August WASHINGTON, D. C, June 24.— The Defense Department today announced a draft call of 23,000 men for August. This is the same as the July call. Before that, for several months, the figure was 18,000. The department said all the men will be assigned to the Army. The Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force do not intend to ask Selective Service for any personnel during August. Threaten Bombing of Guatemala Cities UNITED NATIONS, New York, June 24. — Guatemala told the United Nations today that the anti-Communist rebels have threatened mass bombings of Guatemalan cities within 24 "hours and demanded an emergency meeting of the Security Council to deal with the situation. Farm Program Dealt New Setback WASHINGTON, D. C, June 24. — The Senate Agriculture Committee today dealt the administrations farm program a new setback by voting eight to seven for a one-year continuation of present high -rigid price supports. Jackson Urges Senate to Overhaul Rules WASHINGTON, D. C, June 24.Sen. Henry M. Jackson today urged the Senate to overhaul rules for its investigating committees at this session of Congress and find a way to crack down on senators who break them. The Washington Democrat, a member of Sen. Joseph R. McCarthys investigating subcommittee, said a high priority tag should be put on rules revision. He said eight weeks of the Army-McCarthy hearings built up public interest in the need for a rules change. Predicts Approval of Foreign-Aid Program WASHINGTON, D. C, June 24.— House Speaker Joseph W. Martin, Jr. predicted today the House will approve President Eisenhowers ,470,000,000 foreign - aid program next week without any major cuts. But the Massachusetts Republican told a reporter he expects some tough battles when the bill comes to the floor Monday. FOREIGN: En-Lai Intimates Hold Up of Operations GENEVA, Switzerland, June 24. — Western diplomatic sources said" today that before leaving the Geneva Peace Conference, Red Chinas Chou En-Lai intimated the Reds may hold up major military operations in Indochina. Chou, last of the first-string diplomats to do so, left Geneva by plane today for discussions on Indochina with Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. U.S. Proposes Ban on Bombs LONDON, England, June 24. — The! United States proposed a new international authority to ban hydrogen and atomic bombs and oversee nuclear development, but Russia rejected the plan, the United Nations disclosed today. The U.N. report was published on the secret disarmament talks that ended in a deadlock here Tuesday. It disclosed that Britain and France also presented new step-by-step disarmament plans to ban hydrogen and atomic weapons and cut regular armies within two to five years, but Russia rejected these as well as the American proposals. Churchill Confers With Aussie Diplomat LONDON, England, June 24.— Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill cancelled an emergency Cabinet meeting today to confer instead with Australias minister of external affairs, almost at the moment of his departure for the United States and urgent talks with President Eisenhower. French Mop Up Communist Elements HANOI, Indochina, June 24.— French troops mopped up Communist Indochinese elements today in a thickly-populated area around a ring of concrete and brick blockhouses guarding the Red River deltas defense perimeter. The mopping-up of rebel bases took place about 30 miles northwest of Hanoi following fierce fighting in the Sontay sector, a key area in the delta. Guatemalan Government Halts Revolt TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras, June 24.— The Guatemalan government said today it has halted a revolt attempted by anti-Communist rebel forces. ~But the radio station of the rebels claimed today that the revolution, bogged down earlier by rains, is moving forward again in a three-pronged drive on the "capital of Guatemala City. The rebel broadcast said 18 officers of President Jacobo Arbenz army, including Army Chief of Staff Carlos Enrique Dias, have been captured. France, Red China in Further .Meetings PARIS, France, June 24. — France and Communist China have decided on further meetings to work out an Indochina peace settlement, French sources said today. The sources added that both sides are agreed on the need for another meeting, although no details of date or conferees have been worked out. Unconfirmed French press reports said it might take place in Geneva about July 12. Any such meeting would have to take place before July 20, since that is the date by which French Premier and Foreign Minister Pierre Mendes-France has said he will win a cease-fire or resign.
