Five Select Handicap Hopes Clash Pdst Prandial Goes In Monmouth Dash Prep for 0,000 Stake Also Will Engage Bronze Warrior, Royal Battle, Roman Trend MONMOUTH PARK, Oceanport, N: J., June 24. — Five sophomores will engage here tomorrow in a preparatory test for the 0,000-added Select Handicap that is to be renewed at six furlongs on next Wednesday. The young performers are grouped as the fourth race on the program, while the nominally featured sixth race brought together seven seasoned sprinters. The Select nominees are W. E. Browns Royal Battle, King Ranchs Pelouse, Mrs. Louis Lazares Post Prandial, D. R. Williams Roman Tread and East Acres Bronze Warrior. Probable favorite among the older racers is J. R. Pioritas Landseair, and he will be opposed by Mrs. Charles Silvers Ruthred, Robert Levys Hueso, Arthur H. Bowens Sweet Vermouth, Darby Dan Farms Skipper Bill, George D. Wideners Scent and Brdokmeade Stables Safety. Weights for the Select are scheduled to be released at five oclock tomorrow afternoon and, consequently, the performances turned in by the five members in their prep event may have an influence on racing secretary John Turner, Jr. in his rating of them. Carries Moris Colors Bronze Warrior, who races under the stable name of Garden State Park president Eugene Mori, may be the favorite in this tight little band. He is nicely rigged with 114 pounds and a repeat of one of his excellent efforts during the Garden State meeting would indicate success tomorrow. He was unable to match his speed with Due de Fer and I Appeal in his last race and wound up finishing last, but he drops 10 pounds from that outing and he has no such shifty rivals to duel him for the early pace in this test. Bronze Warrior also was" outrun in an invasion of Delaware Park, but before that he won two races at Garden State Park and was photoed out of a decision, in the Delaware Valley Stakes. His regular pilot, Sam Boulmetis, will be in the irons. Royal Battle was a star performer in New England prior to his arrival here. He has started once over this strip, finishing fourth in the race against Due de Fer, and I Appeal, who placed one, two. He attempted to get out on the turn while racing around horses, and improvement can be expected from the effort. He is to carry 117 pounds and be ridden by Joe Culmone. Post Prandial is making his return in this race after a lay-up of two months. He steadily improved during his Florida campaign and earned decisions over such fancied contemporaries as Due de Fer and Correlation. He also is spotted with 117 pounds and will be ridden by Jimmy Stout. Roman Tread and Pelouse both are recent arrivals from Delaware Park. They are capable of victory, but must show more than in their latest efforts.
