J. MURPHY ARLINGTON PARK, Arlington Heights, 111., June 28. Blue Hawaii and Blue Violin, a pair of three-year-old fillies, finished first and second, respectively, in the Cinderella Purse here this afternoon, but tht placing might have been reversed had Blue Violin had better racing luck. She was caught in close quarters a couple of times in the early running and did well to get in a position to make a bid. She was beaten one length by Blue Hawaii, who ran the seven furlongs in 1:23. Page of Roses was a rather distant third in the nine-horse field. Blue Violin, heavily backed favorite ridden by Dave Erb, was none too smart out of the gate, and her rider, seeking to save ground, sent her up next the rail. She was unable to find an opening and was forced to ease. Erb tried again on the turn, but Blue Violin was unable to make it. She clung to the inside, however, and nearing the stretch bend found herself right behind four horses running abreast. Erb again tried for the opening, and this time he was successful and his charge flashed to second place and really challenged Blue Hawaii, who had taken command oh the "stretch turn. Blue Violins speed was spent, however, and she had little left at the end, although much better than the remainder of the field. Double for Brooks Steve Brooks, riding his second winner of the afternoon, did a good job on Blue Hawaii. He had the miss free from trouble while racing close up, sent her to the front at the opportune instant and put up a good exhibition of reinsmanship when Blue Violin challenged. Blue Violin is eligible for Saturdays Cleopatra Stakes while Blue Hawaii is not. A crowd of 15,461, considered very good for Monday, was present for the racing in pleasant weather, and the track was fast. Hi Billee, a six-year-old gelding from Duntreath Farm, ran six furlongs in 1:10and to win the fifth race. His was a popular score as he was the first public choice of the afternoon to reward. First Refusal, ridden by Adams, set the pace, but Hi Billee, with Steve Brooks up, moved on the outside in the stretch and the two staged ! a torrid tussle to the final 30 yards when Continued on Page Twenty-Eight Blue Hawaii Captures Arlingtons Cinderella Beats Unfortunate Blue Violin By Length; Hi Billee Triumphs Continued from, Page One Hi Billee drew away. The event attracted a field of seven. Miss Energy, a filly whom Harry Trptsek purchased at the Keeneland sales last year for ,800 and later transferred to Hasty House Farm, made ai auspicious racing debut in the opener. She was an outsider in the wagering despite the fact that she had John Adams in the saddle. Adams placed Miss Energy close to the pacemak-ing A Tcoite Force in the early stages of the five and one-half furlongs contest and she outfiriished that one, with Predict being a close-up third. A victory for Oldehpve Stables Fleet Dream in the second race was responsible for a 93.20 Daily Double. Jockey Ronnie Baldwin was alert on Fleet Dream and sent her up on the inside of the pacemaking Super Bee in the last sixteenth to have her up in time. Steve S., the favorite, got third place in the seven-furlong race. John Ralph Adams was the winning jockey in the third affair, and Sky Song was his mount. The majority of those in attendance fancied Gallant Answer, and that gelding flattered in making the early pace, but. Sky Song moved up under urging after entering the stretch and was an easy winner. Bright Flame beat Gallant Answer for second place. The race was run on the turf and the distance was five and one-half furlongs. Right Bit was backed into favoritism in the fourth race, but the winner turned up in Sunny Blue Farms Lady Elliott, who" was up in time to trim the public choice by a nose. Right Bit set most of the pace, but Lady Elliott was always well up on the outside and finished strong under hard riding by jockey W. M. Cook. The distance was six furlongs.
