Easily Shows Way To Dream of Glory Gavegnano Sophomore Rated Threat for Engagements in Lamplighter, Choice Stakes By FRED GALIANI MONMOUTH PARK, Oceanport, N. J., June 28. Joe Gavegnanos Night Baker was the easiest sort of a winner in the featured Audacious Purse here this afternoon, decisively trouncing six other three-year-olds in the mlie and a sixteenth test. Far back going down the backstretch, while Clearwater Stables Stormy Petrel went out to a seven-length in an attempt to steal the race, Night Baker closed with a tremendous drive in the stretch to win by three lengths. Greentree Stables Dream OGlory, the even-money favorite, finished second, three and a half lengths before George Howell Punkin Vine. Night Baker was ridden by Joe Culmone and the pair of them made the journey in a rapid 1:43, just two-fifths off the track record. Night Baker, winner of his last start, paid .20 for his afternoons score. The crowd, estimated at 13,000, was treated to a variety of weather. Right after the second race, rain of a semi torrential proportion drenched the course, but two races, later the sun was shining With all its summer warmth The rain had nq effect on the strip, as evidenced by Night Bakers rapid performance. Cloudburst After Feature The weather took a third turn right after the sixth race when the heavens opened up and a vertiable cloudburst hit the plant. In a fe wmoments the track was awash and the drainage ditches turned into canals. Night Baker is an eligible for both the Lamplighter Handicap and Choice Stakes, as were most of the horses in todays event, and off his last two races may prove to be a formidable foe. Night Baker was restrained early as they went, past the stands the first time and Culmone tucked him on the rail. Stormy Petrel was sent out to an extremely long ltad, while Mr. First and Dream of Glory were the closest after him. Going down the backstretch, Stormy Petrel extended his lead to seven lengths, as Dream of Glory eventually moved into second, with Punkin Vine a close third to him. Dream of Glory gradually cut down the huge margin separating him from Stormy Petrel, while Night Baker also commenced to make his move as they hit the far turn. Dream of Glory caught Stormy Petrel midway of the turn, with Punkin Vine going right along with him. Rounding the last turn and straightening away for home, Dream of Glory took over the lead, as Stormy Petrel faltered and dropped back. Far on the outside in the middle of the track, Night Baker closed with an irresistable rush, caught the leaders and drew out in a twinkling.
