Top Fair Is Handy Massilon Winner Draws Off to Three and a Half Lengths Tally Over Snubbed at ThistleDown By RONALD KRANCER Staff Correspondent THISTLEDOWN, North Randall, Ohio, tune. 28. Ernest H. Lanes Top Fair, a ood looking daughter of Top Deck Liberty Fair, who wasb red by her owner, scored a handy three and one-half lengths victory over M. R. "Buddy" Hamars Snubbed m this afternoons featured Massilon Purse. W .J. Sprow, Jr.s, Pie Bed was third, another two and three-quarters lengths in arrears and a like margin to the good of Miss Deck, who ran as an entry with the winner. The Massilon served as an excellent prep for the ,500 added Endurance Stakes to be run here on Saturday at six furlongs. RioRiba, who finished last, was the only horse not nominated for the Endurance in this field. Jockey William Carstens rode the winning filly to perfection, not making a move until the horses raced into the far turn, when he moved from the outside to displace Miss Deck on the front end. It was Carstens second victory of the afternoon and his fifteenth of the meeting. He is second to Paul Ward in that department. Returns .60 Mutuel Top Fair and her stablemate were the favorites in the Massilon and the victress paid .60, being timed in 1:04. A crowd of 5,946 turned out to witness the sport which was conducted under a cloudless sky and in rather cool weather. Top Fail- was first to show in front, but Miss Deck, moved up to wrest command a few strides after the start, with Shy Peg, second, at the first call, and the ultimate winner third, a length and a half in arrears. Carstens started to "pump" on the filly as the field raced into the far turn and midway around that bend had moved into a head lead over her stablemate. Snubbed was now third, another length and a half back and a half length in front of Shy Peg who was beginning to shorten stride. Pie Bed was making up some ground after a sluggish opening quarter. Top Fair drew clear by two lengths as she passed the furlong marker with Snubbed now having moved along into second spot with Miss Deck third and Pie Bed coming on in fourth position. Shy Peg was through for the afternoon and was a rather distant fifth. The: winner drew clear of Snubbed nicely in the final sixteenth of a mile while being steadied by Carstens. He flicked his stick repeatedly by the left side of the fillys face to keep her about her business. Pie Beds rally fell short and Snubbed remained in the runner-up position past the - wire. Top Fair was winning her fourth race of the year in 12 starts. It was her second tally over the local strip. W. J. Sprows Renoir, given an excellent ride by Donal Bowcut, scored by four lengths over Kings Blood in the fifth race which served as the secondary feature here this afternoon, being named the Martingale Purse in honor of one of Ohios biggest breeders, C. Martingale Stefanek, another three lengths back at the -end of the mile and one sixteenth was Llangollen Farms Get Lost.
