Select Handicap May Be Divided Errard King, Artismo, Quick Lunch; Blessbull, Ordained Await Monmouth Park Stake By WILLIAM C. PHILLIPS Staff Correspondent MONMOUTH PARK, Oceanport, N. J., June 28. The possibility that the Select Handicap will be divided on Wednesday was indicated this morning by racing secretary John Turner, Jr., who predicts that no less than 18 three-year-olds will be named at the usual closing time of entries tomorrow. It is also expected that Joseph Gaveg-nanos Errard King and James Cox Bradys Artismo will use the six-furlong Select as their first step upon a summer campaign that may raise them to the heights of the younger ranks. The 0,000 added fixture was oversubscribed last year, causing a divided running that was captured by A. G. Vanderbilts Beachcomber and W. H. Foales ill-starred Just Sidney. The Select has a record of being won by "good" sophomores, the list of victors since its inception in 1948 including Circus Clown, Petey Cotter, Sheilas Reward, Northern Star and Hannibal. Sidelined After Experimental Errard King suffered a quarter-crack after winning the Experimental Free Handicap at Jamaica this spring and he was consequently sidelined. Trainer Tom J. Barry has had him training since the Garden State Park meeting, and recently stepped up preparations with a couple of excellent moves over the local strip. He is weighted at 123 pounds for the Select, one pound less than Artismo. The latter made his last start in the Withers on May 8, in which he gave a disappointing effort and was given time off to recover his form. Robert L. Dotter has been training him here in company with Landlocked, and the pair this morning skipped a handy three furlongs together in :35. Wheatley Stables Quick Lunch, imposted at 116 pounds for the Select, arrived this morning from Aqueduct where last week he turned back the swiftest local members of the metropolitan set in winning the seven-furlong Shevlin Stakes. Two others shipped in from New York for the local sprint where Llangollen Farms Ordained, who will substitute for the stables top-weighted Porterhouse, and Greentree Stables Card Trick. W. Sims Blessbull, a spectacularly fast son of Bless Me who is the star of New England racing, was brought in over the week end and he will start under a package of 115 pounds. C. T. Chenerys Prince Hill .also checked in from New York and, although he has not lived up to expectations, he deserves consideration as a full brother to the former champion Hill Prince. Others considered likely starters are East Acres Bronze Warrior, W. E. Browns Royal Battle, Brookfield Farms I Appeal and I Geegee, King Ranchs Pelouse, Mrs.l E. Laskers Lychnus, and D. R. Williams Roman Thread.
