Jockey Wm. Hall Guides Miss Grand to Victory Fillys First Win of Year and Riders Third River Downs Tally By W. A. CRUSE Staff Correspondent RIVER DOWNS, Cincinnati, Ohio, June 21. Although hot, humid weather prevailed in the Cincinnati area today, a crowd of 4,500 turned out to witness the sport. In the opener, jockey William Hall and Elmer Sorbers Miss Grand scored a driving victory over C. K. Andrews Glow Gal. It was the three-year-old Quick Reward fillys first win this season and the third winning mount of the meeting for her rider. G. R. Coes Bold American, a rather good-looking three-year-old Bold and Bad gelding, broke down following the running of the first race. The accident happened while he was being pulled up by his jockey, Kenneth Robertson. It was necessary to destroy the H. Jolley-trained charge, when an examination disclosed a fractured sesamoid bone in his right foreleg. Trainer M. Griner saddled his first winner of the meeting in the J. D. Weils Hot Pilot, victorious in the second race. With jockey W. D. Lucas in the saddle, the four-year-old Jet Pilot gelding reached the wire a head in front of Pete Gorfidos Essential. The combination of Miss Grand and Hot Pilot was worth 46.80 to a few supporters. The Mikel . Farms Signal Code redeemed his last two efforts in the third event and was an easy one and three-quarters of a length the best of F. M. Ash-bys Merry Thought. Apprentice John E. Carroll was up and while backed into 3-to-2 favoritism paid an even .00 to win.
