To Broadcast Ohio Derby On Nationwide Network Airing of ThistleDown Feature Marks First in Ohio Turf History THISTLEDOWN, North Randall, Ohio, June 21. Scoring another first for Cleveland, the management of ThistleDown announcedthat Columbia Broadcast System would carry the running of the 0,000 Derby this Saturday on a coast to coast radio network. This is the initial national airing of an Ohio horse race. The Derby will be broadcast to several hundred stations from 5:15 to 5:30 pan. EDT-. Phil Sutterfield, sports director of a Knoxville, Tennessee station, will do both the color and call the running of the race. Sutterfield is well known to sports fans as the winners circle man for CBS on their telecasts of both "the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness. The agreement with CBS for the broadcasting of Ohios oldest and richest race followed nearly 12 months negotiations. John Derr sporty director for the CBS network, acted for Columbia and general manager Louis Pondfield and John OKeeffe represented the Cleveland race track.
