Services are scheduled for The Riverside, 76th St. and Amsterdam Ave. in New York City at 1 p. m Gettinger was 55. Owner of thoroughbred and standard-bred horses for the past 20 years, Gettinger practiced corporation law in Miami Beach, Fla., although his home originally was in New York. The main division of his stable is presently stabled here under the supervision of trainer Rupprecht Leo Baier, while another division is racing in Ohio. At the request of the deceased, the stable will continue to operate under "the Estate of M. M. Gettinger" and his Chris Cross will start in the 5,000 added Providence Stakes at the course on Wednesday. Gettinger was operated on in New York this winter for ulcers, then went south to his Miami Beach estate to recuperate. His home is adjacent to Biscayne Bay and while taking a brief boat trip in late April, the vessel struck a sand bar and both Gettinger and the driver were pitched into the water. The salt water poured into the adhesions of the operation causing infection which later led to his death. Chris Cross, a three-year-old colt, won the Constitution Handicap at Suffolk Downs. Baier also has a promising two-year-old, The River, in his care. The River equaled Narragansetts five-furlong track record of :59 on June 11. In addition to his racing string, Gettinger was also branching out in breeding at the time of his death. He had several mares and his first crop of home-breds are presently yearlings. Baier was scheduled to select those he wanted for racing next year andvwill proceed with these plans in the near future. Gettingers body was flown to New York on Monday where the family has a cemetery plot. He is survived by his wife Betsy, two sons Robert and Thomas, a daughter, Toniann, two brothers Paul and Edward, and four sisters Fannie Shulberg, Dora Eisenberg, Irene Eagle and Mabel Martin.
