PERSEVERE rushed to the leader going to the far turn, quickly assumed command to draw off into the stretch and maintained his margin to the finish. BORDER SON dropped back while along the inside down the backstretch and, when taken to the outside for the final run, closed with good energy. SARA-CHANA alertly took command into the first turn, saved ground after surrendering command and came on in the late yards to dead-heat with TERREBONNE. The latter, never far back, loomed a threat into the stretch but could not carry the rally further. EL BERNADO retired gradually. FRANKANTINE failed to enter contention. DARK EDNA moved into command going to the far turn, entered the stretch in the clear and, while kept to light urging, increased her margin in the late run. COLONEL DREW, reserved early, made a menacing move leaving the far turn but had no solid response in the drive while outfinishing MISSY ROMAN. The latter gave up the lead without a struggle and weakened under punishment. FLYING FREDA only proved best of the others. YASUR SAM faltered after a half mile. VISTA LEE stopped to a walk. BROOKNLLE was put to strong pressure mto the stretch and, after wearing down the leader, rapidly drew away while kept to pressure. BELRIA set the pace but could not resist the winner and gave ground steadily in the final sixteenth. BATTLE MOUNT drifted out slightly under punishment into the stretch and could not menace the top pair. DALLIANCE only proved best of the others. FIT FIDDLE was outrun throughout. QUICK TOWN, in close contention from the start, responded to brisk handling in the final sixteenth and gained a narrow decision. EMBOSS held a slight advantage from the beginning, shook off MAGIC ELIXIR in the early stretch, then just failed to last in a sharp effort. MAGIC ELIXIR made a strong bid for command midway on the turn and into the stretch, then flattened out on the final turn. OFF WE GO gave a good burst of speed in the final quarter mile. TINT STRAW dropped back slightly from between horses going to the far turn, then had no response. DEVILS VERSE raced slightly wide to the first turn but reached command before a quarter mile, raced slightly wide down the backstretch while surrendering the lead between calls to HELBO, took command again going to the far turn, then drifted very wide into the stretch and, coming on again when straightened away, was along in the last yards to wear down HELBO. The latter saved ground while with the winner, drew off into a good lead into the stretch, then appeared to sulk in the late yards when put to strong whip pressure. BOSTON REWARD could not menace in the final run. MILADY MOWLEE started to rally leaving the far turn when bumped by SUPER TOY and then could not recover. SUPER TOY attempted to get out on the first turn, then again on the far turn and could not be fully persevered with. ODD TRICK failed to enter contention. SIXTH RACE 5 FURLONGS out of chute. MISS Fl Fl drew clear shortly after the start and resisting a challenge from MR. MELPET into the stretch, maintained a winning margin under strong pressure. MR. MELPET rushed to the leader from the outside into the stretch and, while showing good determination, could not wear that one down. BABY DEAR made a steady run into contention from the outside and finished willingly. ADMIRAL DEAL was along the inside behind the bunched leaders and could not find clear racing room until too late. APPARITION "flattened out under pressure. ON THE LOOSE was always in close quarters along the inside. POTOMAC SHORE weakened after being between horses from the start. Hicks; bred by P. Fuller. IN GATE-5:07. OFF AT 5:07 EASTERN DAYLIGHT TIME. Start good. Won driving; second and third the same. CHALLEFONT remained in hand for the first half mile, responded willingly when put to pressure and, circling the leaders, wore down STYMIES DREAM inside the final sixteenth. The latter, never too far back, assumed command into the stretch and fought it out gamely with the winner. ZOLT moved slightly in front of the winner, was caught in close quarters into the stretch when the winner came by him and had to be steadied momentarily and could not make up any ground in the final run. Jockey Gibb claimed foul against the winner which was disallowed. SUPPER MONEY shook off TONES BOY midway in the backstretch to open up a comfortable lead but weakened steadily in the final eighth. TACLOS passed tiring horses. LORD RUSH dropped to the inner tail going to the first turn and lacked clear racing room most of the trip. TONES BOY weakened. Overweight— Stymies Dream. 3 pounds. PIPE TROUBLE shook off MISS MACAW after entering the backstretch, repulsed the bid from OKEEGAN on the final turn, then drew off into the stretch and held off SPUNK. The latter rallied after a half mile and finished with good speed. OKEEGAN moved up along the inside to reach near even terms with the winner on the final turn, took back out and, coming to the outside, could not threaten again. WINNING WINGS set the pace under restraint, drew off in the stretch, but had to be put to strong pressure to hold off PASSING AGE. The latter rallied in the stretch, bumped with TAKE THE PRIZE, then was getting to the winner. Jockey Lasswell claimed foul against the winner, but it was disalowed. JAY DEE JAY was giving improved speed when too late. TAKE THE PRIZE held a forward position along the inside, came together with PASSING AGE in the early stretch and tired. JOANIES FIRST rushed up along the niside midway of the backstretch, putting the field in tight Quarters and, after reaching even terms with the leaders, dropped back quickly.
