Admissions at Epsom Available for Derby June 5 For Convenience of Visitors Special to Daily Racing Form EPSOM, England, May 11. — The Epsom Grandstand Association, which conducts j the racing at Epsom Downs, has an- . nounced that for the first time this year reserved admissions to the grandstand for the Epsom Derby on June 5 are on sale in i advance. Reservations may be obtained now at each by writing to the Epsom Grand- , stand Association, High Street, Epsom. Surrey, England. The new advance-sale policy has been I instituted for the convenience of visitors ] to » England from abroard. In the past, tourists have missed seeing the Epsom Derby because of the crowded condition at the track on the day of the race. The new i policy guarantees admission to the grand- j stand. In addition, the admission badge will provide access to the Epsom paddock. Not included in the price of admission is j a reserved seat, which also may be pur- chased in advance, however. According to Maj. J. D. Watts, the clerk j of the course at Epsom, admissions to the grandstand will be limited this year, to provide comfort for visitors. "Every year , many people miss the Derby because they think they simply they cant get into the ; grandstand," Major Watts said. "This is particularly true of many overseas visitors who have been disappointed. This is a completely wrong idea based on the fact j that every year more than a quarter of a million people see the race. But only a very small percentage of them are in the grandstand, the majority being on the Downs, j The fact is, the grandstand at Epsom is so large that the demand has never yet ex- i ceeded the capacity — even on Derby days. I Now, to ensure reasonable comfort, we are fixing a maximum number of admissions." The four-day Epsom meeting will be held from June 4 through June 7, inclusive.
